Do you like scary books? Is Halloween nothing without a creepy book to keep you up all night as you consume copious amounts of candy? Well, for me- a scary book is not a treat. I can read some- but there are others that I can’t even tolerate (I’m looking at you Stephen King!) Here are 5 books that I think qualify for Bump In The Night Books- 3 that I have read and 2 that I may read one day. In the cold light of day. While the house is securely locked up. Continue reading

Meeting Greg Iles, author of NATCHEZ BURNING
Several months ago, back in May 2014, I had the pleasure to meet Greg Iles at TurnRow Books in Greenwood. Greg had just recently published NATCHEZ BURNING (which all the bloggers that I knew were going nuts over- loving it so much!) and I decided that since he was going to be near my hometown- well, it would be just criminal to miss meeting him and getting a book signed. Get Spook-Tacular With Cozy Mysteries for Halloween!

As I’ve been putting together this Spook-Tacular Month of posts, I began thinking about my cozy mysteries- and trying to remember some good Halloween ones. Pumpkins Spell October……
How do you spell October? For me, pumpkins are a major part of October. They are so pretty- the bright orange color- and they photograph so well. Just seeing a pumpkin makes me think about fall- the leaves changing, the nip in the air, blue jeans and boots- and how those beautiful sunny days are so appreciated as we get closer to the winter.
Last Saturday, my cousin invited me to attend Caledonia Days in Caledonia, MS. For those who are not aware of it, it’s an arts/crafts festival- similar in style to Double Decker in Oxford or Market Street Festival in Columbus. He had to drop off some Mississippi State football tickets to be raffled off and then we went walking around the area- stopping and browsing at the handmade items. After a couple of hours of that- he asked me if I wanted to go to the pumpkin patch and I said yes- it was a gorgeous day- clear, blue sky- warm; but not too hot. The only thing that put a wrinkle in my day was the fact that I had left the GOOD camera at home (The Canon Rebel T3I) and just had my small Canon in my purse. But, I wasn’t going to pass up the chance to go and see the patch! Continue reading
Books That Go Bump In The Night: 4 Books from Wesley @ Library Educated
Hey everyone- this is Wesley from Library Educated! We’re going to chat about Books That Go Bump In The Night!
Books That Go Bump In The Night
If you’re home alone on Halloween night and want to read something soothing to distract you from the mysterious noises in your house, I would suggest none of these.
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
One of my nearest and dearest friends recommended this book to me. It sounded a little strange and not really “in my wheelhouse” but it was famous and I’d heard people talk about it so I figured why not?
So this book is filled with torture, sexual torture, drugs, murder and all kinds of inter-workings of a super deranged mind. The book is interesting in that this man is insane, and yet he still holds down an important job, people go on dates with him, and no one seems to be like “do you think that guy is ok?” There is also the distinct possibility that everything he did was just imagined because he’s INSANE and also high on cocaine. I feel like I need to take a shower just thinking about this one too long. Continue reading
