The Big Apple. Home of Broadway shows. Good food. Times Square. Statue of Liberty and SO much more.

I adore visiting New York City. I couldn’t live there- but a few days there gives me such a heady appreciation for live. I like that I can basically be all the personas I adore: Theater geek, foodie, photo taking tourist!

So, tell me- do you want to go to NYC? Continue reading

Butchers Hill

Summary from Goodreads:

Tess Monaghan has finally made the move and hung out her shingle as a P.I.-for-hire, complete with an office in Butchers Hill. Maybe it’s not the best address in Baltimore, but you gotta start somewhere, and Tess’s greyhound Esskay has no trouble taking marathon naps anywhere there’s a roof. Then in walks Luther Beale, the notorious vigilante who five years ago shot a boy for vandalizing his car. Just out of prison, he says he wants to make reparations to the kids who witnessed his crime, so he needs Tess to find them. But once she starts snooping, the witnesses start dying. Is the “Butcher of Butchers Hill” at it again? Like it or not, Tess is embroiled in a case that encompasses the powers that-be, a heartless system that has destroyed the lives of children, and a nasty trail of money and lies leading all the way back to Butchers Hill.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

As I stated in my recent review of CHARM CITY, I’m going back in time with Laura Lippman and reading her earlier books. It’s slightly weird, after feeling like I know Tess, to go back and read her beginnings- but it’s a good weird. For the most part. Continue reading

Hank Phillippi Ryan makes history with her latest win of the Agatha Awards!

hank phillippi ryan 2 agatha

Listen, it’s not news that I love me some Hank Phillippi Ryan. I loved THE WRONG GIRL (my introduction to the Jane Ryland series- and have devoured every other book in the series- and *ahem* have a countdown happening to WHAT YOU SEE is released on October 20th!) When I found out she would be at BEA 2014, I stood in line for quite some time to meet her. When I had the opportunity to interview Hank, well- I *jazzed hands* all over the place.

So, Hank and I- we go way back. Continue reading

The Girl Without A Name

Dr. Zoe Goldman is back!

It’s a regular day in the psych ward until a strange case arrives. Stranger than other cases that come in- this one has many of the doctors stumped.

A young African-American girl has arrived in a catatonic state at Zoe’s hospital. With no way to identify her, Zoe is unsure how they are going to identify this girl- unless she wakes up and tells them exactly who she is.

When other treatments prove to not work, Zoe and the doctors begin to think outside the box- and one day, a change is made. She wakes up and says her name is Candy. What happened to Candy? How did she get into the catatonic state? And is Candy truly safe? Continue reading

Charm City

Summary from Goodreads:

Reporter-turned-P.I. Tess Monaghan loves every inch of her native Baltimore–a quirky city where baseball reigns, and homicide seems to be the second most popular sport. Business tycoon “Wink” Wynkowski wants to change all of that by bringing pro-basketball back to town–a laudable mission that’s greeted with widespread cheers . . . and a muckraking front page expose of his past in the Baltimore Beacon-Light. The “Blight’s” surprised editors are sure they killed the piece. Instead, the piece kills Wynkowski, who’s discovered asphyxiated in his garage with his car’s engine running. Now the paper wants former newshound Tess to track down the rogue computer hacker whose prank took a human life. But there’s more than cyber-crime involved here–and Tess is about to discover firsthand that trying to stay alive in Charm City is murder these days.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

I am SO late to the game of the awesomeness that Laura Lippman is, it’s not even funny. Having read her last 2 Tess Monaghan books, AFTER I’M GONE and HUSH HUSH (along with a couple of her stand-alones), when William Morrow offered review copies of some of her earlier books, I jumped at the chance.  Continue reading
