Between A Book and a Hard Place

Shadow Bend is getting good news- it’s getting back it’s library! (Book readers rejoice!)

Dev is happy about the library, but not happy when she realizes how the funds were found to re-open the library. Her mother’s new husband is the man with the money- and Dev is still angry at her mother for how she acted after the ordeal that sent Dev’s father to jail years ago.

So, Dev tries to stay busy and not associate with her mom too much. But, when Jett meets the Grim Reaper- Dev decides to help Yvette- as she worries that her family will be torn apart again.

With a man searching for aliens and long term Shadow Bend residents beginning to act a bit strange- can Dev get to the bottom of this situation?

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

I’ll be honest- it’s taken more time for me to warm up to Dev and her series- being more of a fan of Skye and Scumble River. But the last 2 or 3 have really grown on me and now I find myself actually looking forward to the Dev installment of each book!

I liked the mystery aspect quite a bit as it involved many characters and shined a light on Shadow Bend.

But, what I really enjoyed is the romance angle. Now, listen- I don’t hate a love triangle, but I also don’t think they should go on for books and books and books (looking at you, Joanne Fluke!) Romance, to me, walks such a fine line in books- I don’t want to read 50 Shades of Grey in my cozy books, but I also don’t want people shaking hands at the end of dates- it’s just maddening. The chemistry in the triangle is simmering nicely and at this point, I’m torn between who she should pick.

I know I’ve said this before in previous reviews- but I also enjoy that we get chapters from Jake and Noah’s POV. It’s nice. Adds extra to story!

Bottom line- this cozy series is hitting it’s stride. Dev is the type of girl that I could see being friends with and I would love to hang out at Poppy’s bar. As long as the triangle does not needlessly drag on for umpteen dozen books- I think Dev’s story will be just fine!
