Do you like scary books? Is Halloween nothing without a creepy book to keep you up all night as you consume copious amounts of candy? Well, for me- a scary book is not a treat. I can read some- but there are others that I can’t even tolerate (I’m looking at you Stephen King!) Here are 5 books that I think qualify for Bump In The Night Books- 3 that I have read and 2 that I may read one day. In the cold light of day. While the house is securely locked up.
1. Help for the Haunted by John Searles
When I read that the author knew the couple from the movie, THE CONJURING, I knew this would be a total sunny day read. While someone talked me down just in case I heard a creepy noise.
I managed to read this book- but I had my hand over my eyes, peeping to read in some places. And if a little boy ever just shows up- just leave. Go find a new house. Take a loss. Trust.
The Wicked Girls by Alex Marwood
I must say- I am intrigued by this book. The plot just sounds super-scary to me!
No Place Like Home by Mary Higgins Clark
I love me some MHC- but this is one that after reading, I really wished I’d finished in the day. Maybe it was the Little Lizzie angle- but I could not sleep after finishing this book. Each noise sounded like something was coming to get me- and my overactive imagination was on high alert.
Argh! Everyone was talking about this book last year. So I read it. And actually liked it. But, I could never read at night- the cover alone is enough to make me think someone is coming to get me!
So, what books go “bump in the night” for you? Did you find some books to read? Or some to stay away from?

🙂 🙂 🙂 You crack me up!
Oh, I loved The Never List! And The Wicked Girls has been on my list for forever. I actually have Alex Marwood’s latest one to review next month. The first 2 books you list though – never ever ever ever reading those! I can’t do it to myself. Especially if there are creepy kids involved.
Starter House wasn’t TOO bad. But, it was creepy. I did like The Never List- totally did not see those twists! Allison @ The Book Wheel reviewed The Wicked Girls- and it’s been on my radar for some time. You MUST let me know how the next one is!
Shadow man by Cody McFadyen was the book that did it for me. I’ve read so many books in this genre, I consider myself pretty jaded. But Shadow man had me checking windows and doors for their lockability. Yikes!
I loved The Never List and I’m taking The Starter House home with me tonight on your recommendation. I love to be scared.
Oh that sounds like a book I could NEVER read! I hope you enjoy The Starter House! Thanks for stopping by to share about Shadow Man!
