{Book Signing} Mary Alice Monroe

Mary Alice Monroe, author of A Lowcountry Wedding, was recently at Turnrow Books in Greenwood, MS.

Turnrow Books called the event Girls Night Out with Mary Alice Monroe and while we listened to Mary Alice talk about her books, her work with dolphins and sea turtles; we snacked on crab dip, sugared pecans and sipped  A Lowcountry Wedding’s signature cocktail.

While I will admit that I have fallen behind in my reading of Mary’s latest set of books, hearing her speak about working with animals and the love she shows for the Lowcountry area made me want to go back home, shut the door, cut the phone off and just 100% completely submerge myself in this world that she writes about. #summerplansyall

Mary Alice read a bit from the book- the epilogue and MAN, was it hard to not cry. I was pinching my hand and furiously batting my eyelashes to keep the tears at bay (mascara looks good on NO ONE running down their cheeks, am I right?) One lady was not able to hold her tears back and her response (since she had read all the previous books) was so authentic and lets me know that Kleenex will be needed.

While at Turnrow, I met these 2 sisters who were lovely. Chatting about my blog, posing for pictures, and having so much fun. (See the ladies in above picture!)

As always, a lovely bookish event in the heart of downtown Greenwood!

  1. I met Mary Alice at McIntyre books in Pittsboro two weeks ago. I have read all of her books and am part of her early reader Facebook group and it was wonderful to meet her. My only complaint – I was driving so I couldn’t drink the signature cocktail. You need to make time to read the Lowcountry series – it’s Mary Alice at her best and is a perfect beach read

    • Cool! I wasn’t aware that she had an early reader FB group- but that is cool! The signature cocktail was quite delicious- too bad you were driving! I plan on making time to catch up on reading 🙂

I have actually met Mary Alice and she is a lovely person. She and I were both present this past January at Pulpwood Queens in Nacogdoches, Texas. What a great time! I highly recommend it! And I highly recommend Mary Alice’s books!

  3. Ah how wonderful to go listen to her. I loved this series, although not sure I would have wanted to hear the epilogue without reading the book. She is so great on audio too, listened to first three on audio, but got the fourth on NG. Now I want a fifth!!!

    • The epilogue was sweet and closed a chapter but without really revealing too much (if that makes sense). It was a perfect combo of MA’s love for Lowcounty life and the animals she’s worked with in the past.

She was telling us that she narrates her books- she had a marvelous reading voice!

I’ve read the first three in this series. I have not met Mary Alice yet, I was at BEA when she was near me this last tour. I was lucky enough to score a signed copy from when Kristy Woodson Harvey was at a tour stop with her and got me one 🙂

    • Yay for you!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I met MA briefly at the first BEA I went to, but actually going to a signing by her was a different story- she’s very passionate about the topics she writes about!
