Parchment and Old Lace
Carmela is having a lovely night with the man that puts the va-va-voom in her heartbeat- Detective Edgar Babcock. A nice dinner, a walk home with moonlight and romance in the air- well, life doesn’t get much sweeter for Carmela.
Screams are heard from the cemetery as Edgar and Carmela walk by. Edgar races off to find out what is happening and Carmela is close behind. The cemetery on a normal day is spooky enough- but at night, it’s off the charts spooky. Especially when Carmela discovers who was screaming….
When the body of Isabelle Black is discovered- Carmela feels a sense of discomfort. They had just seen her earlier in the night, her wedding was fast approaching. Death just seemed cruel for the bride to be. Even though Edgar tells Carmela to not snoop, Carmela just can’t listen. Especially when Ellie, Isabelle’s sister, asks her to look into some things.
Carmela finds no shortage of suspects and when she puts it together- the answer may surprise you…..
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
I have read a few of Laura Child’s Scrapbooking series books. I prefer them to the Tea Shop ones, personally- though I always get a kick out of Laura mentioning Carmela and company drinking tea from the store featured in the Tea Shop series.
Peppered with New Orleans landmarks and good sounding food- Carmela is on the hunt to find out who killed Isabelle. Having no shortage of suspects (and no shortage of motives) it’s up to Carmela and Ava to find the killer!
What I like:
The setting. I’m a sucker for a New Orleans setting.
The scrapbooking angle. I adore scrapbooking.
Carmela and Ava. I like my 2 ladies feisty and daring. Both have that in spades.
What I sorta disliked:
I’m just not feeling the chemistry so much between Carmela and Edgar. Like I like them just fine- but I just don’t get all the feeeeeeeeeeeeeelings when I see them interact. I know Edgar is a detective and crime comes first- but I want to see some date nights with Carmela and Edgar that don’t involve Ava coming along!
Bottom line: If you like Laura Childs and Carmela- PARCHMENT AND OLD LACE delivers!
