Fatal Reservations

Our adorable Key West food critic, Hayley Snow, is back with another round of amazing sounding recipes, tidbits about the life in Key West and…. murder!

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching the town of Key West- but Hayley is too worried about her job to take (much) notice. With a shake-up at Key Zest, Hayley now reports to her new boss, Palamina, while still dating her other boss Wally. Well, if you can call it dating- because between the work that Hayley does for Key Zest and Wally’s mom being sick- the romance aspect is taking a major snooze. Is this just a temporary bump in the road to Loversville or is it a sign?

Hayley would ask Lorenzo to read her cards- but he’s got troubles of his own. Poor Lorenzo has been accused of murdering one of the acts at Mallory Square. Hayley knows he didn’t do it- he couldn’t have and yet the Key West police are not listening to Hayley’s gut. Especially Detective Bransford- who seems particularly grumpy toward Hayley (or is his grumpy behavior masking true intentions?)

Between trying to critique the new place, For Goodness Sake, clear Lorenzo’s name and sort out romantic issues- Hayley has her hands full. Can she solve the crime, keep her job and still find time to sort out her love life? If anyone can- it’s our Hayley!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

I LOVE Hayley Snow. Maybe it’s because she gets her cards read when she’s in trouble. Maybe it’s because she’s unlucky in love. Maybe it’s because I think she could be my BFF (you know, if she was real). A book from Lucy Burdette just soothes my soul and makes me want to hop a plan to Key West!

The mystery:

Good plot. I liked how Lucy interwove some past and present to make a mystery that was entertaining. Excellent use of her merry cast of characters, as well.

The cover:

ADORABLE. I love each and every one of Lucy’s covers!

The characters:

A fun catch-up with all my faves. While one character has turned a bit and kind of soured to me (*cough, Wally, *cough) I understand the reasons behind the change- and I trust Lucy to guide her cast of Key West characters to forms of happiness in her own time.

Final thoughts:

Like cozy mystery reads? Want to know more about Key West? Enjoy reading about food? You’re in good hands with Lucy Burdette, then!
