Free-Range Reading Book 3: The Cinderella Murder by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke

Free Range Reading is still going on at 52 Books or Bust- and I’m balancing review books with free range reading. While technically THE FROM-AWAYS was book 3 in my free-range reading plans, as soon as THE CINDERELLA MURDER came in the mail- I put other books aside and begin to focus on this one.

Ever since a couple or 3 summers ago, when I discovered I really liked MHC’s writing style (short chapters, nice cast of characters!) I have been a fan. Alafair is a recent addition to my list of authors I must read- but I totes dig the Ellie Hatcher series!

Summary from Goodreads:

Television producer Laurie Moran is delighted when the pilot for her reality drama, Under Suspicion, is a success. Even more, the program – a cold case series that revisits unsolved crimes by recreating them with those affected – is off to a fantastic start when it helps solve an infamous murder in the very first episode.

Now Laurie has the ideal case to feature in the next episode of Under Suspicion: the Cinderella Murder. When Susan Dempsey, a beautiful and multi-talented UCLA student, was found dead, her murder raised numerous questions. Why was her car parked miles from her body? Had she ever shown up for the acting audition she was due to attend at the home of an up-and-coming director? Why does Susan’s boyfriend want to avoid questions about their relationship? Was her disappearance connected to a controversial church that was active on campus? Was she close to her computer science professor because of her technological brilliance, or something more? And why was Susan missing one of her shoes when her body was discovered?

With the help of lawyer and Under Suspicion host Alex Buckley, Laurie knows the case will attract great ratings, especially when the former suspects include Hollywood’s elite and tech billionaires. The suspense and drama are perfect for the silver screen – but is Cinderella’s murderer ready for a close-up?

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

THE CINDERELLA  MURDER  picks up from I’VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN with many of the characters. Laurie is looking for a new cold case to highlight- and she’s found the perfect one. But someone is determined to make sure that she and the crew at Under Suspicion will never really find out all that happened that fateful night- the night of The Cinderella Murder!

Short chapters, mounting tension, secrets, romance……. and a cold case that has more twists and turns than one ever thought. Highly recommend!

Was this a fast read for you? I think I’ve read a few of her books. I think she’s a great author. I’m not a fan of scary creepy murder/mysteries but it was easy to read her books.
