The Paragraph Ranch
Summary from Goodreads:
EVERY WRITER KNOWS YOU CAN’T GO HOME AGAIN. But that’s just what is required of West Texas expatriate Dee Bennett-Kaufmann when her mother is badly injured in a mysterious car accident. Single-again “Dr. Dee” has never been on the “A-team” in her trendy East Coast MFA program. When a prestigious summer fellowship gives her the chance to finally finish her book, salvage her career, and spend some quality time with her college-age daughter — Dee’s certain her luck is about to change. Returning to care for her irascible, widowed mother threatens all of that. With so much at stake, Dee engineers a series of unorthodox strategies and creative tradeoffs to keep her options in play—and despite herself finds friendship, love, and the power of words in the unlikeliest of places.
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
When Kay Ellington approached me about potentially reviewing this book, I debated for a few days about it. I already had so many books (and hello 2015 books- ya’ll are coming in by the truckload!) But, upon further talk with Kay (and finding out that Ivory Owl Reviews was getting a copy- I trust her!) I decided to work it in.
It’s a short book. (This is such a positive to me- sometimes I want to want more, y’know?)
The authors have such big love for Texas. (When you have big love for something- it adds a layer of authenticity to you, in my opinion!)
The characters. (Especially Dee and her mother!)
I didn’t LOVE the cover. The cover, while nothing is technically wrong with it, made me reluctant to read the book. I could never quite put my finger on why I was not in love with the cover- it painted a visual that worked- yet, I wasn’t drawn into the cover like I am with some books. The cover did not scream “READ ME”- it more whispered of stories of lazy Texas days, some root-tooting shenanigans, and perhaps a cowboy hat or two.
Give it a try!
And guess what? Thanks to Kay Ellington and Barbara Brannon- you can win a copy! Giveaway is open to US only! Check the Rafflecopter for more details!
Happy Reading and Bookishly Yours,
