Book Talk With R & T: Spoilers about THE FORTUNE HUNTER by Daisy Goodwin

Book Talk with R and T THE FORTUNE HUNTER

Sometimes there are books that have such twists and turns that you are just dying, dying, dying to talk to someone- you need to talk about THE TWIST. However, THE FORTUNE HUNTER is less of that type of book- but it does have some shocking moments, some cause for discussion and one point where Rhiannon is all “When you get to page X, let me know! We must discuss!” So, for the next few paragraphs we are going to get to the spoilers of this book. The parts where we collectively were all “OMG?! REALLY? Totally did not see that!” If you haven’t read THE FORTUNE HUNTER and do not want to be spoiled- stop HERE. Do not read further, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. However if you have read and you had a few “OMG” moments during THE FORTUNE HUNTER, continue on.

About the veal:

Rhiannon @ Ivory Owl Reviews says:
As I said in my review, I had a hard time getting started with this book. The first 70 or so pages were pretty tough. But then I loved the story because I loved Charlotte. I loved Bay. I loved Sisi. I loved hating Fred and Augusta. Oh Augusta! You are such a bitch!
So the story just trots along (get it? …trots? Because Bay’s a horseman?) oooookaaay. But seriously, besides the lovely quips between Charlotte and Augusta I wasn’t necessarily shocked by the progress of the story. Until…. The veal. Ew ew ew. I know women do all sorts of things for beauty. They inject toxins in their face in 2014, so I can’t really judge Sisi for following some crazy fad almost a hundred years ago. Me personally, I would have put that veal on a cracker and had a midnight snack.

T @ Traveling With T says:

Well, the veal was a shock. No, wait it was more gross to me. But, when you hear about people putting urine on their face to clean it (you  know, it’s natural!) then- I guess veal was not the weirdest thing.

About the cocaine:

Rhiannon @ Ivory Owl Reviews says:

I felt bad for Sisi that she was judged on her looks and in a bad marriage.
Until toward the end and some things make sense since…she’s shooting up a nice big syringe full of cocaine after a tough day riding horses! I mean most people would just want a hot bath but…ooookay.

T @ Traveling With T says:

The cocaine. OMG. The cocaine. Since my motto has always been “just say no” I was so shocked to see this in the book. It was such a different angle for the author to take. I mean, I know folks use drugs (I’m a Pollyanna, but not a complete one!) I had to kind of crack up, though, because while I’m sure there is tons of things that would make you feel good after a day on the horses- a hot bath, a massage, maybe some veal all over  your body- I guess the cocaine beats all.

On Caspar:

Rhiannon @ Ivory Owl Reviews says:

I wish Caspar would have been been Charlotte’s friend from the beginning. Loved his sassy-ness.

About the ending:

Rhiannon @ Ivory Owl Reviews says:

But I didn’t like that Charlotte took Bay back after his affair with Sisi. Charlotte should have went to America with Caspar!!!

T @ Traveling With T says:

So Charlotte winding up with Bay didn’t totally surprise me (or even bother me). I do think that Charlotte should have not immediately taken him back. BUT.. that’s just my opinion. I’m still not 100% clear on Char and Caspar’s final exchange- and the mention of the luggage. Was he really not going to America with her? Or what?

So- what did you think of the spoilers? Tell us your thoughts!
