Inherit the Word

It’s time for Grill Fest and the contestants are getting restless. Natalie and Lola are sparring back and forth- first over a chef, then over who will win the Grill Fest. Tempers are running high and the competition is fierce…… and deadly. When Natalie is found in the alley, all the people at Grill Fest wonder who killed her.

There are many suspects- Lola, Natalie’s daughters, Natalie’s son in law, and many others. Who had the most to gain from killing Natalie? Was jealousy a motive? Or was someone tired of Natalie controlling their life?

Jenna knows that Lola did not kill Natalie and she sets out to prove her innocence. Unbeknownst to Jenna, she might be getting close to the truth- after a car tries to run her down- she’s worried that someone thinks she knows more than she does.

Jenna has her hands full with trying to prove Lola’s innocence, but that is not all- when her cat knocks over a Lucky Cat statue, gold coins come spilling out. Was this a gift from her late husband? Or is there more to the story?

Murder, romance, and food- it’s a regular day in Crystal Cove!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts

This is the 2nd book in the Cookbook Nook series and I enjoyed the first one quite a bit. The second one is another winner!

The characters are evolving and growing, Jenna is delightful- fun and spunky. Katie, the cook, has cut way back on her use of “hoo-boy” which was a quirk in the first book that I could not quite get used to.

The mystery was good- interesting and enjoyable. Daryl takes time to plug her other book series as well as other culinary mysteries (which I like!) and Crystal Cove is a great setting.

My only complaint was the fact that the formatting of the e-ARC was terrible. Terrible. There were numbers at the end of every sentence (sometimes in the middle of the sentence) which proved to be distracting, However, that is not a strike against Daryl- I just hope the formatting of the next book is better,

If you enjoy cozy mysteries, give this series a try!

  1. Sounds like a great book, although I think I should start with the first book in the series (I’m anal that way). Do you have the title to that?

Oh, and I hear your pain about ebook formatting! I run into that quite a bit with titles from Netgalley!

    • I do! FINAL SENTENCE is the first one. Daryl also writes under the name Avery Aames (just in case you need more books šŸ™‚

E-book formatting- argh! Most of the time- no problem. But this was ridiculous. Seriously.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. For some reason, I’ve just been less into thrillers and mysteries lately, but I always love reading your reviews. There’s something about cozy mysteries that’s comforting somehow. The books and the cat on the cover of this one certainly don’t hurt!

    • Psychological thrillers have been kind of annoying me lately. Like I went through a spell where I was just disappointed. But the last couple I’ve read, I’ve enjoyed. And there will be a couple of mysteries in the next month or so that I’m looking forward to. Plus, my cozy mysteries! Oh dear gosh- I love my cozy books! Def, def, def comforting!
