Don’t Believe It
Summary: The Girl of Sugar Beach is the most watched documentary in television history—a riveting, true-life mystery that unfolds over twelve weeks and centers on a fascinating question: Did Grace Sebold murder her boyfriend, Julian, while on a Spring Break vacation, or is she a victim of circumstance and poor police work? Grace has spent the last ten years in a St. Lucian prison, and reaches out to filmmaker Sidney Ryan in a last, desperate attempt to prove her innocence.
As Sidney begins researching, she uncovers startling evidence overlooked during the original investigation. Before the series even finishes filming, public outcry leads officials to reopen the case.
Delving into Grace’s past, Sidney peels away layer after layer of deception. But as she edges closer to the real heart of the story, Sidney must decide if finding the truth is worth risking her newfound fame, her career … even her life.
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
Ok, so I am a relatively new Charlie Donlea fan. I won a book from Goodreads, then bought one on Audible and then bought this one to read on vacation (although I didn’t get around to reading on vacation- but that is a whole other story.)
Anyway, I’m pretty hooked on his way of telling a story and am hoping to read more of his backlist.
Also: I’m pretty hooked on true crime feel stories and documentaries/podcast type books. This was true crime and documentary and the format worked PERFECTLY.
What I liked:
Ya’ll know I loved the cover.
The lies and betrayals in this book. Just when you think you know who is telling the correct version of a story- another chapter reveals a teensy detail that makes you look at the whole picture and re-think your ideas.
The ending. YES, please!
Bottom line: I so enjoyed this story and hope he continues a book with some of the characters from this book!
