Literary Friday ya’ll…

Well, it’s Saturday, but I was busy all day on Fri-YAY! 🙂

How has your weekend been? I finished A Good Girls Guide To Murder early this morning (it was ok to me- I doubt I’ll be checking out book 2) and then I’ve done some blogging.

I have started on Home Before Dark- it’s going to be my creepy Halloween read. Of course it’s going to be my read during the day book because I can’t read creepy stuff before bed.

4. #FridayReads: Home Before Dark by Riley Sager.

 

5. Earlier this week, I went and got my first mammogram. I was nervous, but knew it needed to be done because my family history puts me at an increased risk for breast cancer. I am happy to report 2 things: 1. That the experience really was NOT bad and that 2. while I am not in possession of the actual mailed out letter- I checked my chart for updates on my test- and it says to come back next year- nothing that they were concerned about. So yay!

Well today was a first- first mammogram for this gal. I was a bit nervous because I’ve heard it hurts/is uncomfortable. Now maybe my tolerance for uncomfortable is higher than I thought- but it really was not bad. A bit awkward & I wouldn’t want to do it every day- but def not bad. There are other medical visits that have bothered me way more than this. . . I won’t know for a few days any results- so keep fingers crossed that I get good results! . . Of course today was NOT all fun & games- I parked in an area that I park in when I go to Oxford. And it’s always been free parking. Apparently no longer- since I got a parking ticket. 🤬 . . So the scales balanced today- no pain from mammogram, but pain from the parking police.

6. When the opportunity to get out of my yoga pants and T-shirt happens, you document the moment.

Well since the opportunity to get dressed up does not happen often anymore ( seriously most days you can find me in some yoga pants & a T-shirt) when the opportunity does present itself, you document the moment. . . After the event that caused me to dress up, I had a late lunch at the local Mexican restaurant. I used to dine here fairly frequently & the waiters all knew me & my order. But I haven’t been on the inside since I was diagnosed with diabetes. I went in & got a table & sat down. Ordered my food & one of the waiters kept glancing at me & then when I left- the guy who normally ( like 95% of the time) took my order- was working the register & told me he didn’t recognize me at first when I walked in, but when he heard my order, he knew it was me. . . I have to tell you- it feels nice to not be recognized at first. To be like a different person. I’ve worked hard to shed some pounds & hearing good things from people who ‘know’ me, but aren’t close friends/family feels nice. . . I’m still not getting out & about much these days- still staying home mostly & social distancing. But I appreciate the times I do get to go out and fix my hair & put on cute clothes. . . #rockstar1023getshealthy

And when I’m in the mood for that ( or need a break from the suspense/mystery books), I reach for Gretchen’s latest. . . Davis Way- her main character- is a hoot & a half. She’s like Mississippi’s answer to New Jersey’s Stephanie Plum ( and I guess Alabama can claim part ownership since Davis used to live there before she moved to the Bellissimo Casino- which is based on the real life Beau Rivage!) . . 8. Big Little Lies is still one of my fave books- but that is not the only reason I am taking a selfie with it 🙂

So not only is Big Little Lies still one of my top 20 ( maybe top 10!) fave books- Madeline Martha Mackenzie & I have something in common- we’re the same age. . . Yes, today is my birthday & I have to be honest- I had really wanted to celebrate 🎉 this one in a super grand fashion- gambling 🎰 & spa time in Vegas, baby, Vegas. . . Of course- with everything going on- that didn’t get to happen. So I’m celebrating 🥳 in the second best way- dinner with my parents & a long walk in Sam’s Club- maybe I’ll see a book or 2 that I need. . . And one day I’ll get to go back to Vegas.
