My Favorite Half-Night Stand

Summary: Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa Barbara professor, she’s a female-serial-killer expert who’s quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and fellow professors, is perma-single.

So when a routine university function turns into a black tie gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that they’ll join an online dating service to find plus-ones for the event. There’s only one hitch: after making the pact, Millie and one of the guys, Reid Campbell, secretly spend the sexiest half-night of their lives together, but mutually decide the friendship would be better off strictly platonic.

But online dating isn’t for the faint of heart. While the guys are inundated with quality matches and potential dates, Millie’s first profile attempt garners nothing but dick pics and creepers. Enter “Catherine”—Millie’s fictional profile persona, in whose make-believe shoes she can be more vulnerable than she’s ever been in person. Soon “Catherine” and Reid strike up a digital pen-pal-ship…but Millie can’t resist temptation in real life, either. Soon, Millie will have to face her worst fear—intimacy—or risk losing her best friend, forever.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

So, every one and their mama has been telling me I need to read Christina Lauren’s books. Like EVERYONE. (Side story: I actually met the writing duo of Christina Lauren a few years ago at an event called Belles on Wheels– this was during their Beautiful Bastard series of books, I believe. ) To the point that when I was at Book Expo back over the summer, I picked up a copy of their next book- Twice in a Blue Moon.

Without getting into my feelings about TWICE (I’ll save that for review day!) I was a little underwhelmed by my feelings on TWICE considering that SO MANY people love Christina Lauren. But friends had kept specifically mentioning My Favorite Half-Night Stand as one I should read and so I let a friend know I was going to order it and then she sent it to me (because she’s cool as all get out!) and I eagerly made plans to give this writing duo a try. Again.

AND NOW I KNOW WHY ALL YOU PEOPLE RAVE ABOUT CHRISTINA LAUREN.

It was sassy. Funny. A bit steamy. I loved Millie. And I LOVED Reid.

What I liked:

The cover. So cute and fun. plus, I loved the colors.

The group. When you find people who you love as friends- when they are practically family- hold on to them.

Millie. I loved her- flaws and all.

Bottom line: Looking for a fun and sassy read? Something that will give you some awwwwwww feelings but also have you laughing so hard? The search is over.
