The Hidden Corpse

Summary: Former reality TV baking show contestant and recent divorcée Hope Early is trying to find her recipe for success as a food blogger—but murder keeps getting in the mix . . .

When Hope’s elderly neighbor perishes in a home fire, she can’t help but feel somewhat responsible. Only the day before, Peggy Olson had called her over, having burned a pot on the stove while she was sleeping and filling the house with smoke. In fact, she couldn’t even remember cooking. Clearly, it was dangerous for the woman to live alone.

But it turns out she wasn’t alone. When a second body is discovered in the basement of the burned house, suddenly what appeared to be a tragic accident is beginning to look like premeditated murder. As rumors spread like wildfire, Hope is determined to sort out the facts and smoke out a killer, but she might be jumping from the frying pan straight into the fire . . .

Includes Recipes from Hope’s Kitchen!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

This is book 2 in a cozy mystery series and sometimes I don’t mind jumping in on book 2 and sometimes I feel like I’m drowning because so much was laid out in book 1 of town and towns people that it makes it hard to enjoy the second book.

This book is kind of in the middle of those 2 situations. I think much ground was laid in book 1, but Debra does a pretty decent job of laying out the characters and how they connect and there is enough mention of some of book 1 case to keep me informed for things that relate to book 2. So yay for that.

For me, cozy mysteries used to be my bread and butter of reading time. I gleefully marked my calendar and took advantage of Amazon’s “buy 4 for 3” promos. And I still have some cozy mysteries that I am faithful too- but, I’ve given up on a lot of them because they seem stuck- no real desire or way to move characters forward.

What I Liked:

The cover. I LOVE this cover.

The blogging. I loved reading Hope talking about blogging.

The chemistry between Hope and certain character…. although, my Spidey senses make me wonder if a love triangle might not form in a future book.

Bottom line: I was interested in this book and did like it- I would def check out book 3 and I might even backtrack to book 1!
