Join hosts Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge for our 4th annual #AMonthofFaves blog event – a fun way to recap the year that was. We have every day of the event (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) planned out for you, so you can join in anytime. There will also be a link-up on all our blogs – put a link to your post so that we can stop by each and every post to leave comments, high fives, good vibes and well wishes. Here’s what we’ll be blogging about.
Today’s prompt: Challenges {The Year End Updates on Reading Challenges, Personal Goals, Resolutions} #AMonthofFaves – how did you do? Are you going to do more challenges next year?
So, normally I do not stress out over my reading goal. I set it on Goodreads and have faith that I will meet it and know that no one is going take take my reader card if I DON’T meet it.
But 2 years ago, every time I logged in Goodreads- it kept telling me I was X books behind in my pace of my goal and I imagined Goodreads as to being a man with a cigar, twirling his mustache and laughing, saying I was never going to meet my goal- my goal was some crazy number. That year I took charge and lowered it and haven’t looked back.
Now, I set my goal at much more reasonable number. I CAN read 200 books a year if I want, but with all the things I dabble in- the social media, the quest for the perfect Instagram picture, playing with my nieces, swimming, being a cat mom, and you know.. just not wanting to read a book and then immediately dive into another book (not that there is anything wrong with that- sometimes my brain needs a break from reading or I need to re-read some childhood faves- Nancy Drew Case Files, anyone?)
On to challenges- I took part in She Reads Suspense Season Instagram challenge and quite had a lot of fun!
For 2018- I’m going to set my goal at 75 books to read again. I’d like to include more audio books- so hit me up with your best suggestions ( I’d rather more mystery!) and I’m def looking for more Instagram photo challenges- so send them my way, tag me in them on Instagram!
For the curious- I did meet my goal of 75 books read this year and have (at writing) exceeded it by 3 books. I’m planning on starting The Last Mrs. Parrish and Melody at Lil Momma Reader says it’s insanely good! So, I might make 79 before the ball drops on NYE! Here’s my 2017 reading particulars according to Goodreads.

I love Nancy Drew!! It was my first series.
I love her too. I really enjoyed the Case Files one- Nancy is a bit older, more cool in those I think!
Great post and same as on Goodreads, didn’t take the challenge this year as I was actually almost stressed last year trying to keep up with my goal. I’ve learned I’m not as fast as I think and I’m not quite sure how they count novellas and shorts, which I read a lot of. great post and best of luck for 2018!
I think novellas and shorts are just counted as books. I read a novella and it def counted in my goal as 1 book. I understand- I think the challenge is fun, but it’s a lot of pressure for some folks.
I always cheat with my goodreads goal and raise or lower it so that I’m on track 🙂 I like that it then is a way for me to see how many books I’m on track to read instead of a goal I have to meet.
lol! I usually just try to meet my goal if possible- but last couple of years, I’ve set a lower goal to give me wiggle room because the behind the scenes blogging stuff is taking up much more of my time.
