#AMonthOfFaves2016 has a great topic for today! Check out Tanya at GirlXOXO and Andi at Estella’s Revenge for their take on the topic!

Today’s Topic:

Mon. | Dec. 12 – The Most Unique, Weird or Most Memorable Book(s) Read This Year – not necessarily your favorite book because it could be memorable for how bad or how much you liked or disliked the characters.

I’ve read a good deal of books this year and there are a couple that are sticking with me for various reasons. Note: I did like both books, but I also had some quibbles.

The Girl Before by Rena Olsen

I loved how the story was told- past to present and not in chronological order by any means. However, the main character, Clara, frustrated me at times with her naive ways. I wanted to hand her a big ole cup of Folgers and say “WAKE UP! SMELL THE COFFEE! Do you KNOW what your husband is doing? What you are part of?!” However, as frustrated as I was with her at times, I also liked her. She was fabulously layered and not completely innocent, but not a total slimeball.

All Is Not Forgotten by Wendy Walker

Holy hot mess, folks. This narrator teased me, frustrated me and sometimes made me want to punch a wall because of his smug, all-knowing ways. I even screamed out at the pool one day “WHO IS THE DAMN NARRATOR?” because for several chapters you are left in the dark about who is talking in this book.

*Have you read either of these books?*

  1. Good pick on ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN. I felt the same way….just tell me who the narrator is. That was frustrating.

THE GIRL BEFORE YOU has a very different cover…looks a bit psychotic. 🙂

For a character you would love to hate, I would pick Jack from BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. Evil, evil person.

Here is my review if you haven’t read the book: http://silversolara.blogspot.com/2016/08/behind-closed-doors-by-b-paris.html

If I am remembering correctly, the psychiatrist was a pretty evil person too in ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN.

EXCELLENT post as always, Tamara,…your posts are always so interesting and detailed.

Haha! Totally with you on All is Not Forgotten! And the narrator question…someone had told me who it was before I got too far in, but I truly don’t think keeping the narrator a secret for so long added anything to the story…probably just the opposite. I thought it was distracting and confusing and not all that suspenseful…I was much happier with the book once I knew who it was.
