All Dressed In White

Amanda Pierce was about to marry the love of her life when something happened. Was it cold feet or something more nefarious? 5 years later, no one can actually say. Her body has not been discovered and Amanda has not contacted her family to let them know that she is ok.

For a mother, this limbo is the worst kind of life. When Amanda’s mother contacts Laurie about choosing the Amanda White story as the next Under Suspicion story, Laurie is initially unsure. But the more she listens to the mother talk- the more that she knows this is the story.

As family, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and the groom all gather to recreate the night before the wedding- and stories about Amanda are told- Laurie begins to believe that someone in this group knows an answer.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

The UNDER SUSPICION novels began with a previous Mary Higgins Clark book- and now Alafair and MHC write the series together.

I enjoy the writings of these 2 ladies separately and together- even though I must say that the Under Suspicion novels always feel a bit more like a MHC book than what an Alafair Burke book feels like to me. There is a mystery- no real twisty-twisty mystery like Alafair writes in her own books- just good story-telling and an interesting cast of characters (some are recurring- like Laurie, Alex, Laurie’s dad and child and some of Laurie’s workers and others are just for each book -the ones related to the case). No matter- all are entertaining!

This book, at the crux, was how well did anyone know Amanda? Would she be the type to leave? Or was her leaving the outlier- the thing pointing 100% to someone doing her harm?

Likes:

The plot. I loved the idea of the Runaway Bride plot- and kept a tally on my guesses as evidence mounted to support the different theories of the case.

The interactions between Laurie and Alex. It felt very real to me- the concerns that Laurie has, Alex’s feelings.

Bottom line: If you are a MHC fan- then I see no reason as to why you would not enjoy this book!

  1. Hi T, I agree with you, about the Alafair Burke’s writing being more of the fantastic twists and turns she writes in her novels…she is a master crime writer and I enjoyed a lot of her books. I like MHC also and its a nice combination book idea.
