Cole Barrett is not prepared for Christmas. With a very pregnant sister spending time at the house and his 2 children recently suffering a loss- Cole is just trying to keep one foot in front of the other and is not concerned about the Christmas magic.
Until he meets Devin Shaw.
Devin, a doctor at the hospital, meets Cole on a snowy night when his sister arrives at the hospital after a fall has everyone concerned for her and the pregnancy. When Devin sees the 2 little kids, she is reminded of the power of Christmas and how magical it is through their eyes.
Devin takes it upon herself to help organize some help for Cole and the family- and as the 2 spend time together, she finds herself thinking about him.
When she discovers his hot spring, though- she has an idea. She’ll help give Cole’s kids the kind of Christmas they deserve in exchange for him letting her elderly yoga class use the springs. Cole reluctantly agrees to the terms- but soon finds himself warming more and more to the idea of Devin- all that she represents and the joy that she brings to his life.
Will these 2 sort their feelings out? Only time will tell……
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
This is my first RaeAnne Thayne book and I was drawn to the story because I LOVE the idea of the holiday stories. They make me melt like a marshmallow- all warm and gooey inside. I especially really enjoy them during the actual holidays since they are a nice break from the hustle-bustle of putting up a tree, cooking, and preparing the house for family.
The story was cute- Devin and Cole were fighting the attraction for much of the book- and yet you knew it would end great for them. Cole’s 2 children were a welcome addition to the story- especially as you read some of Devin’s backstory.
The town, the setting- it had that whole feeling of a small community that treasures things like holidays, helping neighbors, and all that jazz.
I didn’t completely connect with Devin and Cole, though. Maybe it’s because it was my first RaeAnne book, maybe it’s because it was still 90+ degrees when I read this book- so I could melt- but from the heat, not the sweetness.
Final thoughts: Are you looking for a book for the holidays? Do you like sweet stories and holiday settings? EVERGREEN SPRINGSis your cup of hot cocoa, then!
