Avery Aames is doing a tour with Great Escapes for the release of her latest Cheese Shop Mystery, AS GOUDA AS DEAD.
As Avery tempts us with the pics of the good looking food- she was also kind enough to provide a recipe. (So Avery, I’m not too mad about you making me want to lick my computer screen 🙂
I have a new Cheese Shop mystery coming out next week, AS GOUDA AS DEAD, and I’ll be sharing lots of the recipes included in the book in the coming weeks, but today, I wanted to share something I’ve made before. Why? Because it’s so good. And so pretty!
By the way, I had no idea that I had to create recipes and cook all the time while writing mysteries. Let’s not even talk about how I’ve had to hone my photography skills. I’m still working on that front. But if an author writes a culinary mystery, food is involved and fans expect that food to be good and often times pretty. My husband laughs because he now knows he cannot dig into any meal without first asking if I have photographed it.
I’ve shared this recipe on Mystery Lovers Kitchen, a blog where some tasty mystery writers cook up crime every day. If you have seen it already, you know it’s pretty.
And did I mention it’s delish? Perfect for a Super Bowl party or an Oscar’s party.
Say cheese!
MANGO CHUTNEY AND BRIE
Ingredients:
½ yellow onion, chopped fine
1 Tablespoon oil
1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon thyme
½ teaspoon cloves
2 slices mango, chopped
½ tomato chopped fine
1 Tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
4 ounce wedge of Triple Cream Brie * brought to room temperature
8-10 crackers or crisp bread
Directions:
In a saute pan, cook chopped onion in oil until wilted, about 3-5 minutes. Add brown sugar, vinegar, thyme, cloves. Cook 1 minute. Remove from heat. Toss in mango, basil and tomatoes and toss until combined.
Set in the center of a serving plate. Adorn wth a wedge of brie and crackers or slices of crisp bread. Use a pretty spoon to add dollops of chutney on the crackers. Add slice of cheese. Yum!
But… wait- there is more. Because Avery is super-cool and super-nice, she has a special giveaway planned. A giveaway that involves visiting all the stops on AS GOUDA AS DEAD tour.
Here it is:
