Ooh this one stumped me! Like REALLY stumped me! (Thanks Tanya @ Girlxoxo for creating such a stump me prompt!) Before I get any further- the linkup for today is at Estella’s Revenge!
Back to the stumpy-mcstumperson prompt. I read A LOT of good books. I have my taste in books down to a science- and blogging has expanded my taste. So, when I go into a book- I usually feel pretty ok with being able to finish it. But there are times when I’ve wanted to lay that book down and never pick it up again (note: these books generally come as recommendations from others!)
On to the books I ALMOST put down…. and am glad I didn’t:
1. Five Days Left by Julie Lawson Timmer
Yep. Julie Lawson Timmer’s book is making this list. It wasn’t a one, two emotional sucker-punch; it was like emotional bomb after bomb after bomb going off. I DID have to put the book down for a few days to get my emotions under control.
2. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
So, I loved the book. But the first few chapters- till shortly before Katniss actually gets to the games- well, I was so undecided.
3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Oh Jane…. The Summer I Spent With Jane Austen can sum up my feelings about ole Jane perfectly!
4. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
I know folks- this is THE book that people get all excited about. I read for my book club- and seriously, the first 100+ pages could be summed up in a few sentences. She (the second wife) was insecure. We get it, we get it. It wasn’t till she started having more interaction with the housekeeper and a couple of secrets get revealed that I was REALLY into it. NOTE: I enjoy the movie quite a bit more- as it sums up the first part of the book in a much neater package.

That was 4 (close enough to 5, right?!) Can’t wait to see all the lists!
Happy Reading and Bookishly Yours,

This would be a tough category for me. I enjoyed your descriptions/reasons 🙂
It was SO tough!!!! SO glad you liked it 🙂 🙂
I enjoyed your list. I loved The Hunger Games and want to read Rebecca sometime. (sorry for the accidental post above – too early in the am and I hit post comment…time to get my coffee.
🙂 It’s ok! I just deleted that mistake! I did love THG- and I def say read Rebecca- but I still think movie is better!
I love that Pride and Prejudice is on your list! I’ve never read it and had absolutely no urge to, but my mother is horrified and keeps trying to shove it down my throat!
Oh, it was a hard summer with Jane Austen. I am glad I’ve read it- but it’ll probably be awhile before I feel the need to tackle more classics! LOL about you mom!!
I don’t know if I can list 5 but there have been a few that I started reading and it took me a while to get into and at the end was so glad that I finished it. #1, I agree with Rebecca. It was a fantastic story. I even went out and bought the movie. #2 Outlander. It confused me a little bit bouncing back and forth to the different time periods but once I got used to it, it was a great story. #3-Believe it or not, Twilight. I didn’t think I could be a fan of vampires but ended up reading every book of the series and saw all the movies, more than once! #4-The Help. I don’t like reading about people being mistreated. I read for entertainment so that isn’t something I’d like to see let alone read about but this is truly one of the best books I’ve ever read. #5-Hunger Games. This book is so different than what I normally read but my daughter was so excited about this book that I had to read it. It took me a while, I’d start to read it and then put it down but after the first 20 pages, I actually got into it and enjoyed it! Then I went back and read the first 20 pages again and was glad I did it. Well, what do you know?? I made it to 5!
LOVE your list!!!!!!!!!
I loved the Hunger Games, I actually read it in a really bad time in my life because I couldn’t put it down, not all three of them, when I really should’ve been studying. Well, I have no regrets. I have only read Sense and Sensibility by Miss Austen, but didn’t love it. It was way back in High School though. I still need to get read Pride and Prejudice. I’m considering maybe to get the audiobook, but I’m not sure yet.
I did wind up loving THG and the other 2 in the trilogy- but I was REALLY hesitant and just unsure at first.
I have not read S&S- but I would love to hear your thoughts on audio P&P!
I would have put down Pride & Pred. but it was required reading. never read another Austen book.
🙂 🙂 🙂 I didn’t have much required reading in high school!
Hunger Games was kind of like that for me too!
Like NO ONE talks about Hunger Games like that. Either people HATED it or Loved it. None of this I was unsure, then I began enjoying! So glad I’m finding people who felt my way!
I agree. I don’t think you can say it was ‘eh…It was either GREAT or was TERRIBLE. You can say that about some books but for sure, not this one.
Exactly. EXACTLY!
