Meeting Greg Iles, author of NATCHEZ BURNING

Several months ago, back in May 2014, I had the pleasure to meet Greg Iles at TurnRow Books in Greenwood. Greg had just recently published NATCHEZ BURNING (which all the bloggers that I knew were going nuts over- loving it so much!) and I decided that since he was going to be near my hometown- well, it would be just criminal to miss meeting him and getting a book signed.

Not being familiar with Greg’s work (or his vast reputation!) I arrived about 10 minutes before the signing was to start….. AND COULD NOT FIND A PLACE TO SIT. Seriously. This is when I began to realize that he was much of a bigger deal than I had anticipated.

The staff at TurnRow was great, though. They were shifting seats around and adding more rows of seats- and so I did manage to get a place to park it for the talk. Greg stood at the front of the crowd, talking about Rock Bottom Remainders, what was next in the Penn Cage series (THE BONE TREE to be published in April 2015). Greg answered several questions- from talk of movies, to favorite books, and how the title NATCHEZ BURNING came to be.

After some time, people begin to line up to get to meet him (or to see him again from a previous TurnRow visit!) The line was quite long and I stood chatting with several folks, hearing their opinions on the best previously published Greg Iles book.

Finally, it was my time to get my book signed (and boy, is that book heavy!) I chatted with Greg for a moment- but I was feeling flustered. Unsure. Nervous. He was gracious, though, and I just chirped on about how all the bloggers I knew were loving the book- so I just had to come see the man behind the book that was all a-flutter! He posed for a pic, I thanked him for being so entertaining, and me and my 10 pound book walked out the door.

As usual- another great event at TurnRow Books!

  1. Aaah – what a great experience! I was one of those bloggers that was raving about Natchez Burning, which is the only book of his that I’ve read to this point. However, I’m looking forward to the next one in the series!

    • It was so fun! And def one of the bigger events I’ve been to lately (except for Kathryn Stockett’s THE HELP signing. ) I keep meaning to read- we even picked it for book club and then I was just too bogged down with review reading to get very far in it. I do wish I had bought it for my Kindle- it’s heavy šŸ™‚ I would def go to another signing of his- so entertaining!

  2. I’ve had this on my shelf for a while, but haven’t read it yet. I’ll have to revisit your post once I’m more familiar with the author’s work šŸ™‚ It sounds like it was a fun experience!
