In Your Dreams
Emmaline Neal is in need of a date. A date for her good-looking ex-boyfriend’s wedding. A date that will make surviving that awkward wedding possible. Enter Jack Holland. Jack is the man in Manningsport for these kind of events. He’s dreamy looking, and perfect arm candy for this wedding. Jack quickly agrees to be Em’s date for her ex-boyfriend’s wedding- but he’s not just doing it for Em. See, Jack has recently being getting some unwanted attention from his brush with fame- saving some teenagers from a car accident has given Jack some national attention- and brought his ex-wife back to Manningsport to win him back.
So, Emmaline and Jack head to the wedding. The plan: use Jack as arm-candy so that Kevin, Em’s ex, doesn’t know that she still misses him. Try to have a nice weekend with Jack. Return back to Manningsport on friendly terms. But, you know what they say about the best laid plans……. The weekend goes better than what Em expected- and it ends with her and Jack heating up the sheets.
Returning to Manningsport, Em is a bit confused about what’s up with her and Jack. She had a great weekend with Jack- but knows that things can go no further. Jack, though, doesn’t see things that way- and begins to pursue Em. Even though, Em had a great time with Jack (and is very attracted to Jack), some old demons make her question his attraction to her.
Slowly, Jack wears Em down- and they begin to date- much to Jack’s ex-wife dismay. Just as things are looking good for Jack and Em- a disaster happens and makes Jack and Em question everything.
Will Jack and Em overcome their problems? Or will Hadley win Jack’s heart back? And, just what about Em’s feeling for her ex, Kevin?
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
I’m a recent fan of Kristan Higgins after having adored WAITING ON YOU earlier this year. Why do I enjoy Kristan so much? Simple: The way she uses humor in her story. Kristan’s got the boy meets girl part of the story nailed down- there is some conflict, a cute-meet story, and some sizzling chemistry. But where Kristan really shines is her use of humor. Reading a Kristan Higgins book in public is dangerous- you’ll be the gal holding the book and laughing so hard, you are almost crying!
Examples of Kristan’s humor:
“Why not just put Naomi in the Hunger Games and let her kill everyone else, but damn it, Emmaline was not going to lose.”
“To think she’d worn a thong for this.”
“Holy food orgasm. Spicy and creamy and sweet and frickin’ unbelievable.”
“Of course he made it. He saved children and made beautiful furniture and cooked and looked like a movie star. “
I mean- really?! These lines are priceless. PRICELESS.
Looking for a romance that has a not so typical heroine? For a romance that has a sweet story as well as humor? Give IN YOUR DREAMS a try!
On a more personal note about this book- it’s easy to classify romances as having the lead heroine having a pretty perfect life- minus the true love part. IN YOUR DREAMS, though, does not shy away from showing the real (and many layers of) Em- the kick-butt confident police woman, the not so confident with her family gal, the girl who kicked her stutter- and yet worries that one day it’ll come back. And, lastly- the girl who gave her heart to a guy who was perfect for her- a guy who saw past the stutter and saw the real Em- only to have him dump her when he became a perfect male specimen. Oh, the scars that left on our Em.
