Four Friends by Robyn Carr
Gerri- she has her life together. 3 kids, adoring husband, Gerri has a job that fulfills her- she thinks life is pretty good. Until, the day she finds out about a secret that will shake her to the core- and cause her to look at her marriage without the rose-colored glasses.
Sonja- she believes in purification, that life is just better if you eat right, exercise, and feng-shui your life. When Sonja’s husband leaves her because he’s tired of living the New Age lifestyle with her (he wants to eat red meat and have a alcoholic drink), Sonja loses her faith in the things that have defined her life for the last several years.
Andi- she loves men. Hot, sexy, and in her bed makes her happy. Andi has a type (think young stud) and when the latest one breaks her heart- she wonders about life. Could a man who is nothing like Andi’s type be the one to bring her happiness- both inside and outside the bedroom?
Andi, Gerri, and Sonja- best friends. Power-walkers. They share each other’s lives- the ups and downs. But when all 3 women each have a personal crisis- it’s the lady on the fringes, BJ, that will give them a jump-start to getting life back on track. And, after that, perhaps the 3 women can figure out BJ’s dark and deep secrets…..
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
This is my first Robyn Carr book, so I was unsure what to expect. I know that Robyn Carr is a big name in the romance world and I adored the cover and the plot. I did not completely connect with the characters, though. Gerri, for some of the book, behaved as a “smug married person” and then when she found out about her husband’s betrayal- she went completely in the other direction. It wasn’t till later, when Gerri really began examining her role in the marriage that I began to like her, to relate to her.
However, I still enjoyed the book. I thought the women’s relationships with one another rang true, and while the ending is not a surprise- it was a nice book to read. If you are a fan of Robyn Carr’s- you’ll enjoy this. And if this is your first time to read a Robyn Carr book, I think you’ll find yourself picking other books of hers to read and enjoy.
I though the setting of Mill Valley was perfect for the book- it had the right kind of feel for this book. The cover is eye-catching and the story-line is less about a romance and more about the women’s friendship, overcoming the difficulties in their personal lives and moving on. FOUR FRIENDS is definitely a book that fans of women’s fiction should check out!
