Today is August 1. Which means for the next month, I’m not going to buy any more new books (EXCEPT for the pre-order I had from months ago & if I go to a book event- because it would be rude to not buy a book at a book signing).
Mostly for August, I’ll be reading books that I WANT to read. Books that have been on the shelf for a time- books that have been in stacks. Books that I have been longing to read- and yet, always found another book more important at the time.
I will still be reading a couple of review books ( need to honor my commitments) but mainly- I’ll be #ctbs- Conquering The Book Stacks.
These are some of the books I’m hoping to read during August:
The Painted Girls ( I did not finish during July 😦
Snagged by Carol Higgins Clark
The Cherry Cola Book Club by Ashton Lee
The Island by Elin Hilderbrand
The Tao of Martha by Jen Lancaster
Jack and Jill by James Patterson
Wicked Appetite by Janet Evanovich
The Violets of March by Sarah Jio
While We Were Watching Downton Abbey
These are just a few of the books I hope to read during August. I may not make it through the list, I may sub other books in. All I know is this: I’m going to work really hard to make a dent in the stacks of my books, to reclaim my stacks- to CONQUER the stacks!
Each week, I’ll post an update on how I’m doing- and if you are on Twitter- follow the hashtag #ctbs to see the group of us chatter on about our books.
Here’s hoping I survive to Sept 1 without buying new books (Barnes and Noble- I’m sorry, I won’t be perusing the bargain book section till Sept 1- please don’t put up any “Missing: Have You Seen this Book-aholic” posters)
Good luck! I love your little disclaimer that book events don’t count 😉
🙂 I don’t think I actually have any book events- but Jen has some (and she’s going to pick me up a book 😉 So I just wanted to make sure that everyone knew book events were totally fine.
For me- I’m mainly trying to stay away from the B&N (and the bargain books!) Or just the mindless buying on my Kindle, etc.
Yes I needed that disclaimer! Got some good events to buy for – lol!
🙂 I know! Made sure everyone knew just for us #bookbestie!
As Melody said it would be rude not to buy :). Btw were there any others that you wanted?
Let me check the list. I think just the Supremes, tho. I’ll shoot you an email in like 5 mins!
Ok! LMK!
You have some really good books waiting for you this month! I read the last 4 on your list and loved them, especially The Violets of March. The Island was one of Hilderbrand’s best-enjoy!
I can’t wait to dive into the list! Join us if you want 🙂
I would love to- really want to actually reread a few like HP, The Book Thief, and Gone With The Wind, but I have about 6-7 that I need to read for review. I am in a reading slow down with the kids home etc. If I get through a few of the ARC, I will definitely join in
Hey K-
You just join in whenever you can 🙂
What ARC’s have you got to read? (I’m curious about new books since I can’t buy any!)
I have the following waiting from NEt Galley- A Fatal Likeness, Before I Met You, and The Girl You Left Behind. I also have The Rathbones and The Middlesteins from Goodreads.
I have Before I met you- I’m looking forward to reading that!
Turn the Page, I have A Fatal Likeness on my list too. Let me know when you start it.
I have totally not heard of A Fatal Likeness- but since both of you are talking about it- maybe I need to investigate further!
I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one that didn’t finish The Painted Girls…I have that on my list, too. There are some books on your list I’ve already read – loved The Island and Night Road – and I also have some of the books on my shelves or on my tbr list…While We Were Watching Downton Abbey (on my shelf) and The Violets of March (on my tbr list). Good luck…I think we all will need the support to stay out of bookstores!!!
July just got nutty and between what I HAD to read & what I wanted- I just never got far enough with TPG. That will change tho!
Thank you 🙂 Good luck to you as well. I’m so ready to sit down & read these books- cannot wait!
You start to feel all shaky from not buying books- let me know- I’ll talk you off the ledge 😉
I have a whole room of books. It was once called my office. I fled it now need to #ctbs on my dining room table, too. Thanks for this intervention, T!
You are welcome! You should see my room- it’s embarrassing of how many stacks I have!
I’m loving that we are doing this and that our everyone’s lists are so different. Great change of pace. I will be buying books at the end of the month at DBF but I’m not buying any before that. I made my 2013 resolution to not buy any books and I stuck to it until I bought 1 last month. I guess I’ve been doing a version of #ctbs all year. Maybe by 2014 I can get get some sort of handle on my addiction. Maybe.
I’m so glad you are joining in Rhiannon!
My stacks have gotten almost out of control (I blame bargain books for some of that). I just need a month where I can be held accountable and have support 🙂
* If you go to any book signings before DBF, they are ok! Signings are special events 🙂
I didn’t make a list but I’m NOT going to buy anything and I’m NOT going to the library. I’m clearing my shelves and honoring prior commitments 🙂
Whoooooooo!! After I return these 2 library books I had prior to Aug, I’m prob not going back to library myself ( have way too many to read of my own/commitments)
