A sign of TOO many books?

Last night I searched for, well I’m almost embarrassed to admit for how long- but it was well over an hour (that’s all I’ll freely admit to) for a book that I was sure I had. I had a vision of buying said book and sticking it in my to-read crate. Well after searching the crate, the bookshelf, the stack of books on the table, the car, and everywhere else I could think- I’ve either not bought the book OR the dryer has decided to go to my reading room and start eating books, as opposed to the socks it normally consumes.

So, as I searched in vain for not going to admit how long- I began to wonder if this was a sign that I had too many books- because thinking you’ve bought a book, then not being able to find it could be a cry for help.

As I ponder this- I’ve moved on to plan B- making a list of every book I own (and possibly with a drawn out map as to where to locate said books). Subsequently, I’ve also decided that this will probably be a good idea for my dvd/cd collection as well.

Ultimate irony- I’ll buy this book and find it in the most obvious place- that’s just my luck.

  1. I don’t think there’s such a thing as too many books! My mother disagrees, but then again, she’s never understood the joy of books. A good way to make an inventory of the books you own is through Goodreads. The first time I came upon it I had such fun locating all the books I’ve read and rating them.

    • I have a Goodreads account- I’m going to make a shelf called “Books I Own”. Thanks!

There really is not such a thing as too many books- it’s just a pain to not be able to find a book that you are so sure you have bought!
