One True Loves
Summary: From the author of Maybe in Another Life—named a People Magazine pick and a “Best Book of the Summer” by Glamour and USA Today—comes a breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancé who has finally brought her back to life.
In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.
On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.
Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.
That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.
Traveling With T’s Thoughts:
Confession: This is my first Taylor Jenkins Reid book. Melody at Lil Momma Reader has been raving about TJR for years and I’ve kept meaning to check her books out (but none of the summaries of her other books grabbed me LIKE this one!) When I read this description, I just had the “I NEED THIS BOOK” feeling. Lucky for me- it was a #SRC2016 book and I got a copy!
The set-up of my reading: I was at the pool. It was a nice day. My mom had come by and asked me what I was reading and I replied “One True Loves” and she said “Don’t you mean love?” and then I began telling her about the plot and she was all- well, who does she pick? I told her I’d have to tell her later because I didn’t know. I had hopes about how it would end, tho.
First things first, finding out your husband is alive after thinking he was dead is some kind of surreal moment.
My heart broke for Emma. Losing Jesse like that.
However, when Emma returned home, when Emma began living her life again- I rooted for her. I cheered her on. Life goes on. Love can happen again. People change. People grow. Sometimes people need to see the world before realizing that all they really want is right there in front of them.
And then when Jesse returned, my heart broke again for Emma- because I knew that no matter which way she went, there would be heartbreak.
Taylor Jenkins Reid takes Emma on a ride- Emma learns more about herself, about who she is, who she was and how she’s going to live her life. Does Emma get a happy ending? Read the book 🙂
My takeaway: I loved this book. I thought about it for days!
