Getting Even

Orianna and Ivy- best friends and work partners. They are a creative team at Green- putting together ads, coming up with copy, and just wowing folks with their creative efforts. For both gals, life is pretty good at work- and they are reaping the rewards of their partnership.

Orianna is the sweet and naive part of the duo, while Ivy is the brass, take no crap one. But like chocolate and wine- they complement each other.

And then…………..

Orianna is keeping a secret. She’s been dating a guy, a higher up at Green for a bit. She didn’t tell Ivy because they (Orianna and Dan) wanted to keep it quiet until they knew if this was going to be more than just a casual fling. When Ivy finds out about Orianna and Dan- it bothers her. A lot.

Not wanting to hurt Ivy’s feelings so soon after not telling her about Dan, when Orianna takes the new art director position- she tells Ivy. And Ivy then begins waging a war against Orianna- with shocking (and some hilarious) consequences.

With workplace drama, frenemies, and campy fun themes- GETTING EVEN is a fun look at the ad agency life in a fun, but deliciously evil story of revenge!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

Not being familiar with Sarah Rayner’s other work- I wasn’t sure what to expect when the publicist at St. Martin approached me about potentially reviewing GETTING EVEN. When it was pitched to me, it was pitched as similar to Bridget Jones’s Diary- so I was intrigued.

Is GETTING EVEN another BRIDGET JONES’S DIARY? Well, I’ll be honest- it’s been awhile since I’ve read BJD- so I probably can’t adequately make the comparison. It is a fun book. It does have some laugh out loud moments. You can’t help but like Ivy- even as she’s doing some revenge-y things to get back at Orianna.

All in all, this is the perfect book for the casual reader- the reader who wants something light, something with work place drama and revenge- something that is reminiscent of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. Fun. Revenge. Workplace drama. Let me introduce you to GETTING EVEN by Sarah Rayner!
