So excuse me while I dance around the house a bit, but me, yes, me- aka Traveling With T was asked to be a part of THE FEVER tour! Listen- it’s not a big secret that I really enjoyed the heck out of DARE ME by Megan- her take on cheerleaders was so great and she created a character, Beth, that still lingers with me (Think a younger Amy Dunne from Gone Girl and you have an idea of Beth!) When I saw THE FEVER for request at Netgalley, I clicked that request button like a mad woman blogger! My review will be posted in the next couple of weeks- today is all about THE QUESTION that Megan (yes, Megan!!) is answering at Traveling With T!
I thought long and hard about what to ask Megan- and it came to me one morning- so here is my question (and the perfect answer Megan replied with)
Q: After writing DARE ME, which showcases the darker side of cheerleading, did you get much negative feedback about the characters; especially Beth? Have you thought about how people might react to the characters in THE FEVER?”
I can’t say I did. Beth was a divisive figure for many readers, but in the best way—because people wanted to argue about her. And that’s thrilling as a writer. You want your readers to have strong feelings about your characters. But I really don’t think about that when I’m actually writing. And as a writer but also as a reader, I like complicated characters because people are complicated. My commitment to the characters in The Fever was foremost that they feel real, authentic. And that everyone has reasons for the things they do. (Even when they’re doing not-so-nice things!)
Did the Q&A not convince you that you NEED to read THE FEVER? Well, here’s the synopsis from Goodreads:
The panic unleashed by a mysterious contagion threatens the bonds of family and community in a seemingly idyllic suburban community.
The Nash family is close-knit. Tom is a popular teacher, father of two teens: Eli, a hockey star and girl magnet, and his sister Deenie, a diligent student. Their seeming stability, however, is thrown into chaos when Deenie’s best friend is struck by a terrifying, unexplained seizure in class. Rumors of a hazardous outbreak spread through the family, school and community.
As hysteria and contagion swell, a series of tightly held secrets emerges, threatening to unravel friendships, families and the town’s fragile idea of security.
But wait… there is more- Thanks to Little, Brown and Company- Traveling With T has 1 copy of THE FEVER to give away to a lucky person! Giveaway is open to US/Canada! Check the Rafflecopter Link for more info:
