The Secret Life of Violet Grant

In 1964, Vivian Schuyler- smart, beautiful, and with more charm than the law allows has decided to pursue a career as opposed to living the life of carefree bliss that her family desires her to live. One day, at the post office, in the course of picking up a parcel- Vivian’s life takes a change- a tall drink of water helps Vivian take her parcel home and when she finds out what the parcel is- well, it opens Vivian to a world she had not known and makes her question many things.  The parcel is addressed to Vivian, but it also has a name on the package of Violet Grant. Vivian is confused as she’s not sure who that is, how this suitcase made it to her and what it all means. A phone call to Aunt Julie (remember Julie from A Hundred Summers?) and Vivian has more questions than answers.

As Vivian starts to dig through the suitcase- she finds a mystery, love, and scandal.

Violet, 1914- a bright mind and a desire to be more than what is considered acceptable for a woman at that time- Violet meets Dr. Grant at the university and a mentorship develops into a friendship. As their interactions take on more of an intimate tone, Violet finds herself dazzled by Dr. Grant’s intelligence. But, the rose-colored glasses must come off one day.

With the talk of war all around, Violet soon finds herself having to make some choices- choices that have long-lasting consequences.

With the stories of Vivian and Violet intertwining, the reader will find themselves getting deeper in the lives of the Schuylers- and loving every minute. Society, drama, love, and scandal- you’ll be turning pages as fast as you can to find out what happens next!

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

I adore Beatriz Williams. I have loved her since she introduced us readers to Aunt Julie last year in A HUNDRED SUMMERS- and this year’s book, THE SECRET LIFE OF VIOLET GRANT, does not disappoint.

The characters: Can I just say how much I adore Vivian? I mean, good golly- she’s so darn charming- she’s smart, beautiful, and funny! Then, the tall drink of water- Dr. Paul- my gosh, the pages sizzled with chemistry between Vivian and Dr. Paul- and how entertaining that was! The flip side of the coin- the Violet stories was just as good. Violet was an intelligent girl- a girl who wanted to make a name for herself by being studious. She didn’t have quite the charm that Vivian had, but she was memorable for many reasons!

The story being told in 2 voices works for THE SECRET LIFE OF VIOLET GRANT. Pieces of the story are revealed, tensions mount, and the reader is almost breathless with excitement because they have to know what happens next. It’s a read that is engrossing and enjoyable- and beautifully written.

Looking for a summer read that will linger with you long after the last page is turned? Allow me to introduce you to THE SECRET LIFE OF VIOLET GRANT.
