Midnight Is The Darkest Hour

Summary: Beware of the dark. You might like what you find…

Ruth Collier has always felt like an outsider, even as her father rains fire and brimstone from the church pulpit. In Bottom Springs, his word is as good as law.

But there are things the townspeople fear more than God, like the Low Man, a vampiric figure said to kill sinners in their beds on moonless nights.

When a skull is found deep in the swamp, a hunt for the Low Man begins. Suspicion turns to Everett – Ruth’s oldest friend, with a dark past. As Ruth and Everett grow closer, Ruth begins to unearth the town’s secrets, determined to discover the truth.

But as the line between good and evil grows ever thin, how far will Ruth go to save the person she loves most?

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

Ya’ll, this book did not LIVE up to my expectations.

I had requested this book via Netgalley and got denied for it (it happens, but it always sucks- especially when you see 500 gajillion of your ‘gram buds getting the NG approval thumbs-up) but I decided I would wait till next year when this book would likely be on the Amazon 3 for 2 book buy (her 2 previous ones have been). However, a recent discovery that my local library has stepped up their game with e-books and boom, I had it.

And, well…. this book was allllllllllll over the place. Ultimately, I gave it 3 stars; but I think I was being a bit too generous.

From my Goodreads review:

I’m so glad this book didn’t cost me any money because I’d been peeved to spend money on this.

There are trigger warnings at the first of this book & that is great for those who need them. I was cool with it.

What I didn’t love was the meandering aspect to this book/ I was wanting something a bit more firey at times.

And Ruth. Well I could never really decide how I felt about her, but her obsession with Twilight & Edward Cullen was a bit off putting to me.

Some of this book floated on 2.5 stars, some was 3 stars & there was a brief shining moment that I thought we were headed to a 3.5 star/ 4 star but sadly it lost it’s way.
So 3 stars considering all the ups & downs.

Anyway, this book did not work for me. I was expecting something different. It was packaged and presented as something different in my opinion.

Bottom line: Have zero expectations when you go into this book and be ready for a grown ass woman to be a bit too obsessive with Edward Cullen (but perhaps that is to be expected since she’s been essentially emotionally stunted by her parents. )And that almost arranged marriage- ewwwwwwwwwww, gross!
