3 Books I Recently Requested on Netgalley

I kinda have a love/hate relationship with Netgalley. I try to be good and not request a ton or sometimes just log on to upload my recent reviews… and then something will catch my eye and down a rabbit hole I’ll go.

Here are my most recent requests from Netgalley:

The New Couple in 5B

Anticipated Pub Date: March 5, 2024

About the Book:

A couple inherits an apartment with a spine-tingling past in this unputdownable thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six.

Rosie and Chad Lowan are barely making ends meet in New York City when they receive life-changing news: Chad’s late uncle has left them his luxury apartment at the historic Windermere in glamorous Murray Hill. With its prewar elegance and impeccably uniformed doorman, the building is the epitome of old New York charm. One would almost never suspect the dark history lurking behind its perfectly maintained facade.

At first, the building and its eclectic tenants couldn’t feel more welcoming. But as the Lowans settle into their new home, Rosie starts to suspect that there’s more to the Windermere than meets the eye. Why is the doorman ever-present? Why are there cameras everywhere? And why have so many gruesome crimes occurred there throughout the years? When one of the neighbors turns up dead, Rosie must get to the truth about the Windermere before she, too, falls under its dangerous spell.

Advance Praise

“If The Shining’s Overlook Hotel were a luxury apartment building, it might resemble The Windermere—architecturally stunning, a tribute to a gilded past, yet deeply sinister. I was terrified the moment Rosie and Chad moved in. The New Couple in 5B is another thrilling, twisty hit from master of suspense Lisa Unger.” —Ana Reyes, New York Times bestselling author of The House in the Pines

“Lisa Unger never misses, so it’s no surprise that I loved her newest thriller. The New Couple in 5B is dark, atmospheric, and addictive from the first page right up until the shocking ending. An absolutely riveting read from one of the genre’s best—just remember to breathe.” —Jennifer Hillier, USA TODAY bestselling author of Things We Do in the Dark

“The tension just keeps building in Unger’s latest dark and twisty delight. Come for the gonzo plot, but stay to be haunted by a history-soaked old New York apartment building that feels more like a sinister character than a setting, and for bright, ambitious, clear-eyed Rosie, whose voice stuck with me long after I turned the final page. I loved it, and you will, too.” —Joshilyn Jackson, New York Times bestselling author of With My Little Eye

“Lisa Unger keeps finding new ways to prove she’s among the best in the business. Packed with heart, tension, and fever-dream fear, The New Couple in 5B delivers domestic suspense with a gleaming Gothic edge that would make the great Ira Levin proud.” —Michael Koryta, New York Times bestselling author of An Honest Man

The Summer Book Club

Anticipated Pub Date: February 13, 2024

About the book:

The rules of summer book club are simple:
•          No sad books
•          No pressure
•          Yessssss, wine!

Besties Laurel and Paris are excited to welcome Cassie to the group. This year, the book club is all about fill-your-heart reads, an escape from the chaos of the everyday—running a business, raising a family, juggling a hundred to-dos. Even the dog is demanding (but the bestest boy).

Since Laurel’s divorce, she feels like the Worst Mom Ever. Her skepticism of men may have scarred her vulnerable daughters. Cassie has an unfortunate habit of falling for ridiculous man-boys who dump her once she fixes them. Paris knows good men exist. She’s still reeling after chasing off the only one brave enough—and foolish enough—to marry her.

Inspired by the heroines who risk everything for fulfillment, Laurel, Paris and Cassie begin to take chances—big chances—in life, in love. Facing an unwritten chapter can be terrifying. But it can be exhilarating, too, if only they can find the courage to change.

Everyone is Watching

Anticipated Pub Date: March 26, 2024

About the Book:

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Overnight Guest comes a twisty locked-room thriller about a mysterious high-stakes game that proves life-threatening.

The Best Friend. The Confidant. The Senator. The Boyfriend. The Executive.

Five contestants have been chosen to compete for ten million dollars on the game show One Lucky Winner. The catch? None of them knows what (or who) to expect, and it will be live streamed all over the world. Completely secluded in an estate in Northern California, with strict instructions not to leave the property and zero contact with the outside world, the competitors start to feel a little too isolated.

When long-kept secrets begin to rise to the surface, the contestants realize this is no longer just a reality show—someone is out for blood. And the game can’t end until the world knows who the contestants really are…

Advance Praise

“No wonder Heather Gudenkauf is one of my favorite authors. Everyone Is Watching is a unique, original, compelling, and absolutely binge-worthy read. I couldn’t inhale the pages fast enough to find out what was going on in this mysterious high-stakes televised game. It’s Big Brother meets Survivor meets a bucketload of Machiavellian twists, and this knock-out book is sure to be a hit!” —Hannah Mary McKinnon, internationally bestselling author of The Revenge List.

“Heather Gudenkauf manages to smash it out of the park every time. Everyone Is Watching has the delicious ingredients of a stay-up-all-night-and-finish thriller: a do-or-die reality show, a cast of disturbing characters, and a drumbeat that starts pounding on page one. If you need an escape from reality, this is the book to grab.” —Julia Heaberlin, internationally bestselling author of Night Will Find You
